How to Transfer Music and Other Data from Your iPod to Computer

A few weeks ago I wrote about how you can't transfer app data doesn't sync and when you get a new computer and you sync your iPod with it you lose game scores and other app data. Today I'm going to tell you how you can transfer music, videos and other data from your iPod to computer.
  1. First you have to determine if you have an older iPod. If you do you will see your iPod in my computer in the devices with removable storage section and it will function as a disk drive so you won't have to download a program to transfer music and videos. All iPod touches and iPhones do not function as disk drives so you will have to download a program to transfer data to your computer.
Make sure you have ITunes downloaded and installed. After you have ITunes installed hook up your iPod to your computer. ITunes will try to sync and quickly stop it. Then go to the iPod information and unselect the sync iPod when iPod is connected option.
  1. Next you have to download a program to transfer data from your iPod or iPhone. Some programs that worked good for me are music rescue and DiskAid and Music Rescue. If you just want to transfer music, music rescue works fine but it doesn't let you transfer videos. Disk Aid you can transfer videos and music
  2. Then you have to transfer the data in Disk Aid you have to go click on the media folder file and then click on ITunes control and then click copy to PC at the top.
  3. Then it will ask you where you want to save the ITunes control folder and you can save it in my document or wherever you want.
  4. Then you can go into ITunes and go to file add folder and select the ITunes control folder that you just saved.
  5. In music rescue it you can choose to either quick recover so all your music is transferred from your iPod or select songs that you want to transfer.
  6. To transfer apps you just have to go into ITunes and right click on your iPod in the left bar and select transfer purchases. But be warned this does not transfer app data so if you don't want to sync apps just uncheck the box in the app section of your iPod information and you can get here by clicking on your iPod in the left bar.

I know the pictures are a bit blurry and aren't very clear because they degraded when I uploaded them.
Please comment, follow and tell me what you want you want me to write about next.

GPS Tracking Apps on Cell Phones

Quite while ago google released an app so you can track your friends and they can track you. This app is quite amazing it uses either GPS, Wi-Fi or cell tower technology to determine location. This app works on google android, Blackberry, IPod touch and IPhone. You do have to sign up with google to use this app.The app does give you the option whether to show your location and how detailed the location data is like if you just want the city your in displayed. Many cell phone companies have tracking applications for parents to track there children. The ability for parents to track their children may even encourage parents to get cell phones for their children. There is definitely a lot of potential with phone tracking applications and I'm sure it will get even more popular.

Great Music Video App For IPod and IPhone Touch

With copywrite laws many music videos on youtube, even the ones posted by record companies won't play on IPod touch. I found a solution for this problem when I was looking to watch a music video a few days. I found this great app called Vevo. Click on the logo below to download app.

Instant Movies Netflix and Pay-per-view

More and more people are choosing not to make the trek to the video store to rent a movie. Many people choose to order movies instantly using Net Flix or ordering pay per view movies via satellite receiver or cable box. There are more and more devices that this is possible on for example now after getting a Netflix disc for the Wii you can order Netflix movies any time using a Wii tha is connected to the internet. Netflix is also available on play station 3, soon the XBOX 360, IPod touch, IPhone, on new HD TVs that can connect to the internet and on the computer. The popularity of pay-view movies and instantly being able to watch movies hasn't been good for video stores now many are going out of business. Now with some services such as renting movies from apple you can watch the movie for up to 48 hours or with a Netflix account, which is slightly more than renting a movie, you can rent movies as much as you want. With pay-per-view you also don't have to worry about late fees or there not being any copies of the video being available. There are also more options than a video store for many pay-per-view and other services. The world is coming more and more instantaneous with pay-per-view and Netflix and other services video stores are going to have to lower their prices and have more specials and deals to compete.

City Story Game Centre Compatible

When game centre was released there was only one free game with game centre capabilities which was Farmville. Now there are multiple games including City Story. City story has the best game centre capabilities for a free game I found yet. City story allows you to play mini games against random players or you can choose friends from game centre.
To play a mini game you first have to find the mini game function. You can find the mini game function in the main menu
You are then directed to this screen where you can choose if you want to invite friends to play or play against random players in auto-match. In auto-match you can choose how many players you want to play against. It takes at least 30 seconds to connect to other players. The waiting time depends on how many players you invite (more takes longer),If you are playing against a friend or friends it takes longer depending how fast they respond to your request. If you are not inviting friends you can tap the play now button. You can choose how many random players you want to play against too. It does take longer to connect to three other players by then just one so if you want a quick game just connect to one other player in auto-match or just invite one friend to play.
The screen will then look like this while loading

You will then see this message.

There will then be a final connect to the other player/players. There will then be a countdown once the other player is ready.
Then you will receive a message telling you what job you get. For some reason I seem to always get a fire fighter. I've only got a doctor once when I played against a group of my game centre friends. If you are a fire fighter you put out the fires. If you are a doctor you click on the buildings with band-aids on them. If you are a police officer then you click on the buildings with police tape on them.
The game then starts. You have a one minute time limit for two players. The time limit does increase and there is a bigger reward when you play with more people. I have played the game a few times and haven't yet got the river and won the game. This seems to be very challenging to get the needed 75 points in tow player games and 150 in three player games

Note:
In game centre in the games you can go to city story and by tapping on the played recently section you can see who you recently played and add them to your game centre friends.
my city
I just started so it's still pretty empty

ITunes 10 and Ping

Apple has released has released ITunes 10 and with it Ping. Ping is a music based social network Ping resembles twitter in a way because you can follow artists and see their recent updates and also slightly resembles facebook in its layout. You can also follow not just celebrities but other users like you. You can also choose to have people not follow you and there are other privacy options like this. You can access Ping with the new iPod touch 4.1 firmware upgrade by enabling Ping on ITunes 10 and then syncing your iPod. You can add your favorite music and it will be displayed on your profile and music you recently bought will also be displayed on your profile. I don't believe though that it will display music that you just added to your library that hasn't been bought from ITunes. It is surprising how many musicians are already part of Ping and post regularly. It is beneficial for musicians to be part of this new music based social network so they can get their name out there and have their voice heard. The benefit of Ping is probably why so many musicians are already part of this recently released social network. Ping is fairly easy to sign up for if you already have an apple account it just takes about thirty seconds since a lot of information is already filled out. The only things you really have to do are choose the music you want to display on your profile (if any) and your privacy settings. When you add people as friends you can see the music they have bought and what music they like just like they can see the music you like and the music you bought. It will be interesting if and how much this social network increases music sales on ITunes and if new artists are discovered by using Ping.

Farmville Game Centre Review

Last Wednesday Game Centre was released with the IPod touch 4.1 update. The only free game so far that is game centre compatible is Farmville.  On game centre you can add friends by email address or by the nickname. It would be better if game centre did have facebook integration. It would be interesting if facebook integration in game centre is in the works for the next IPod touch firmware update. You can view your Farmville achievement in game centre and you can play Farmville from game centre. Farmville on game centre isn't too impressive the racing games such as Real Racing that costs $4.99 on the Canadian store (unsure if price varies in different countries). It seems now though that there are some $0.99 games that do work with game centre. The games don't all seem to be $2.99-$4.99. It will be interesting to see the improvements as time goes by and soon hopefully there will be facebook integration so you don't have to add people by email or nickname. Game centre seems like it would cater more towards people playing racing games than people just playing Farmville.

How To Download YouTube Videos

First you find the you tube video that you want to download. Once you find the you tube video you want to download you copy or cut the the url.

When I did this I think that keep vid was having a problem because I had to refresh the page and then it only gave me the flv format which doesn't work on iPods (only the mp4 format work on iPod) and you have to have a flv player on your computer to play the video and it is also lower quality. But also don't download the mp4 HD videos because they don't work on iPods either. Keep vid should be working normally soon. Otherwise just google download videos from you tube and there is more sites that do the exact same thing.

Then there will be a box that comes up saying if you want to find, cancel or save the video. Click save.

Then save it as whatever you want.

Then it will start downloading it does take a long time on dial-up but doesn't take long on high speed.

After it is done downloading you can go in Itunes and go to file and then choose add file to library.

Now the video should be in Itunes double check then you can sync your IPod and you'll have an you tube video saved on your ipod.

IPod Touch 4.0

The IPod touch 4.0 was recently released. The IPod touch has many features that the previous IPod touch models didn't have. Above is an advertisement for the IPod touch 4.0. The IPod touch is definitly marketed for more of a camera and a internet device than a actually IPod. On the apple site it did say it could also shoot HD video and it can also take pictures. This is different from the newer IPod nano which was released about a year ago which was only able to shoot videos. The rear facing camera is only about a mega pixel. This is the same as most phones which don't take to good quality of photos. The photos look okay on the device but don't look good blown up on a computer screen because of their poor quality. The apple site just gives the information about the resolution of the cameras but this is probably a good thing (for them) 960 by 720 resolution sounds better than the amount of mega pixels. The IPod touch comes with many new features such as Face Time like the IPhone 4, cameras, multi tasking which came out a while ago and retina display which apparently is better than the previous IPod screens.

Game Centre Now Working!!!

Last night I noticed that farmville on my IPod touch is now working on game centre. I did reinstall farmville then went and loaded and played it. I then closed it and went to the game centre app and it showed up in the games which i didn't before. I don't know if it was the reinstall that got it working or the server. Here is a screen shots of farmville on game centre. I discussed game centre in my previous blog.

IPod Touch and IPhone Game Centre

Yesterday the 4.1 software upgrade was released for IPod touch and IPhone. With the software upgrade game centre was included. This application provides users the ability to play games with friends or strangers. Currently there is a small list of games that have game centre capabilities most of the games are not free and need to be purchased from the app store. The only free game that has game centre capabilities is farmville. Game centre was only released yesterday and because of this it is not fully operational yet. Supposedly game centre is in beta now and will only be fully operational in early 2011 ( this is only a rumour and more accurate information will probably be released soon). I just downloaded and installed the new update and farmville wasn't showing up in game centre games so it might take a few days. This is a great idea for an app and it is great that you have the option of playing against strangers and adding friends and playing with them. It is unfortunate that most of the games that can be played on game centre do cost money and aren't the cheap ones that cost around $1 the games on game centre are at least $4. Hopefully the amount of games compatible with game centre increases and there are more free games that work with game centre.
